Our very own onsite shop, “Bare Necessities”, officially opened earlier this month! Run by the Activities Team and based right here in the grounds at Hengoed, the shop is open daily from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, exclusively for residents.
The shops name was chosen by residents themselves, reflecting the community spirit and involvement we promote. Stocked with everyday essentials and the odd indulgent treat, the shop is about more than just convenience it’s also about supporting independence. For those who prefer not to access outside shops, it offers them an outlet to still enjoy the familiar experience of browsing and choosing items for themselves in a friendly, comfortable environment. Residents can now pick up what they need, when they need it (at competitive prices), without relying on outside trips.
“We wanted residents to have the freedom to choose for themselves, whether it’s something practical like shampoo or something a little cheeky like a chocolate bar” Annie- Lead Activities Coordinator.
The shop channels old school sweet shop vibes with shelves featuring toiletries, snacks, and even apparel. Early feedback has been positive with a bumper first week of customers.
We hope the shop will bring a little fun to daily routines, encouraging residents to pop in, browse, and enjoy a chat along the way.
